Your district’s evaluating and assessing preschool-aged children and childhood programs could receive a boost if your school is awarded a new grant offered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). The MDE is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 Great Start Readiness Program Evaluation Grant competition.

The grant is supported through the State School Aid Act. The Great Start Readiness Program Evaluation Grant will provide for one (1) grant in the amount of three-hundred thousand ($300,000.00) with Fiscal Year (FY) 2017-2018 funds. The grant will be awarded for up to five years, pending continued appropriations and appropriate progress of the grantee.

The funds will be awarded through a competitive process to any public or private for-profit or nonprofit legal entity or agency with proven experience and ability in the design and utilization of process and outcome evaluation, including both qualitative and quantitative methods for assessment of preschool programs and with program improvement activities.

Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of developmentally appropriate early childhood programs and appropriate assessment of young children. Priority will be given to applicants who can demonstrate previous experience in the evaluation of programs for preschool-aged children and their families, as well as previous experience in the evaluation of school-aged children.
