Public school district employees who have educator certificates that expire in 2018 can start the renewal process right after the new year begins, according to the Michigan Department of Education.
Educator certificates expire on June 30 of their expiration year, but employees can begin applying for renewal early in 2018 without losing time on their certificate before it expires.
The MDE is encouraging local districts’ human resources staff and administration to begin the annual review process of staff certificates to ensure that all staff remain up to date. Staff members with a certificate expiration date of June 30, 2018, should be encouraged to log-into the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS) and begin updating account information, according to the MDE.
