The Michigan Mathematics and Science Center Network (MMSCN), through a grant with the MiSTEM Advisory Council and, is pleased to announce a professional learning opportunity to support AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) and Computer Science Discoveries (CSD). is one of the approved providers for the AP CSP course by the College Board. Last summer, 100 Michigan teachers went through this program.  Schools across Michigan are successfully implementing both AP CSP and CSD this year.

 The grant will provide local schools with the following:

  • Resources for teaching AP CSP or CSD during the 2018-2019 school year
  • A Sample AP CSP Course Audit
  • Professional Learning for teachers throughout Michigan at no cost (stipends for teachers are not included)
  • A curriculum from for the AP CSP Course or CSD Course

Schools interested in taking advantage of this opportunity will be expected to have an AP CSP course or CS Discoveries course in their school schedule for the 2018-2019 school year.  MDE has also granted flexibility for teachers without an NR endorsement to teach this course.  (See memos on this website for more information:

When teachers apply, their administrator will be asked to verify that their district is planning to offer an AP CSP or CSD course in the fall.  Teachers can only be admitted into the program if they are scheduled to teach the AP CSP or CSD course during the 2018-2019 school year.

The 2018 Summer Professional Learning Series is scheduled for July 8-13 at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids.  There are no registration costs for this conference for any teacher admitted into the program.  Teachers in the cohort also receive a 5-night hotel stay at the JW Marriott, breakfast, lunch, and course materials at no cost.
