The conversation surrounding school calendar reform, and what it means to have a “balanced school calendar,” is front of mind for many public school superintendents. To help assist school leaders look at the why, when, what, who, where and how a balanced calendar can impact summer learning loss, Holt Public Schools has created a summer institute focused on the benefits of a balanced calendar.

2018 Calendar Reform: The Balanced School Calendar, will be an opportunity to spend time reviewing research, asking questions and getting to talk with parents, students, and faculty who have lived it and are loving it each day.

Hosted by Dr. David Hornak, Executive Director of the National Association of Year-Round Education (NAYRE), the conference will consist of two sessions. Day 1 will be on Monday, June 18th from 1:00 pm – 7:30 pm, framed around an introduction to Holt’s balanced calendar where participants will have the opportunity for a site visit, book study (book included), social time and dinner. Day 2 will be on Tuesday, June 19th from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, where participants will get breakfast, a site visit, lunch, resource materials, be presented with the research and have the opportunity to review and discuss balanced calendar.
