Each year, the Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators awards the MASA Superintendent of the Year Award to a superintendent who has shown tremendous effort and dedication to enriching the lives of children and the community. This prestigious award recognizes strong leadership and creativity in successfully meeting the needs of students, as well as highly accomplished communication skills, professionalism, and community involvement.

The process to nominate your superintendent for the 2021 Superintendent of the Year Award is simple:

Step 1: Submit a nomination through AASA’s Superintendent of the Year web portal: soy.aasa.org. Both the nominator and nominee will receive an email confirmation from AASA that a nomination was submitted. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on August 7, 2020.

Step 2: The nominee must complete an application, also through the AASA’s Superintendent of the Year web portal. Nominees who do not submit an application will not be considered for the award. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on August 28, 2020.

The MASA SOY Selection Committee will meet in late September to select the 2021 Superintendent of the Year. The winner will be presented with the award by the MASA Executive Director at a local school board meeting no later than November 1, 2020. The 2021 Michigan Superintendent of the Year will automatically be entered into the running for the AASA National Superintendent of the Year Award.
