Millions of students who are eligible for financial aid fail to file the FAFSA each year, leaving “money on the table.” This year, there may be even more money left out of the pockets of college students nationwide, according to the National College Access Network (NCAN).

So far, 60,000 fewer FAFSA applications have been received since about March 15, compared to last year. This is especially concerning for disadvantaged students.

To encourage graduating seniors to complete the FAFSA, NCAN is sharing resources and tips that districts can use in their communities:

  1. Conduct an Exit Survey
  2. Focus on FAFSA Completion
  3. Decode Financial Aid Offers and Compare Costs
  4. Navigate Decision Deadlines
  5. Combat Summer Melt
