Numerous Return to Learn and COVID resources have hit member inboxes during the past few weeks. We’ve compiled them here to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Q&A from Return to School Roadmap Webinar
MASA recently held a webinar about the Governor’s Roadmap document with Brandy Johnson from the Office of Governor Whitmer, Kevin Polston, Superintendent at Godfrey-Lee Public Schools and a member of the Governor’s Return to Learn Advisory Council and Lisa Peacock, Health Official with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. In case you missed it, we have compiled the information into a Q&A section on our website, which will be updated when more information becomes available.

Back-to-School Protocols – Create Your Own Video
Has your district or ISD/RESA thought about putting together an informational video about your back-to-school protocols? MASA has created a draft video script to help you along in the planning process. Simply click here to download the PDF sample, which you can use as-is or modify based on your local plans.

MSPRA Communication Toolkit
The Michigan School Public Relations Association (MSPRA) has been working to create toolkits to support schools in their communication about their return to school plans. Parts I and II of the toolkit are linked below and can also be found at Both documents have been reviewed by representatives from MASA, as well as the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators. All sample materials have been used with permission and are intended to serve as examples of what could be tailored to individual district situations and needs.

Do First: Section I of the toolkit was released July 15, 2020. It is designed to help schools communicate with target audiences to highlight work being done over the summer to prepare for various return to school scenarios.

Do Before Schools Open: Section II of the toolkit, released July 23, 2020, is designed to help schools communicate with target audiences to help them understand what school will look like in the fall, describe health and safety procedures, outline educational options and explain closure processes, should they be needed.

When Schools are Open and Operating: Section III of the toolkit – to be released in early August – will provide communication resources to support schools as they share important information and updates relative to school operations as Michigan moves through the phases of the MI Safe Start Plan.

Resources to Support Virtual Mental Health Programming

Below you will find resources that align with some of the recommendations from the Governor’s MI Safe Schools Roadmap. MASA will continue to share this information as it becomes available.
