Hot Topic: Defining Michigan’s Teacher Shortage and Next Steps
During the Hot Topic session on Thursday, a panel of experts from the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan State University will delve into the details of Michigan’s teacher shortage, the data behind the reality in the classrooms, and some next steps we can take in Michigan to make a difference in local districts. Following presentations giving an overview of Michigan State University research and data from the Michigan Department of Education on this important topic, there will be a time for Q&A.
Speakers for the session include State Superintendent Brian Whiston; Joshua Cowen and Katharine Strunk from the MSU College of Education; Abbie Groff-Blaszak of the MDE’s Office of Educator Talent; and Leah Breen of the MDE’s Office of Professional Preparation Services.
The Hot Topic session will take place on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Michigan Ballroom.
2017 Keynote Speaker: Dr. Tim Quinn
MASA is thrilled to welcome keynote speaker Dr. Tim Quinn to our 2017 Fall Conference.
Dr. Quinn is a nationally recognized pioneer in superintendent preparation, coaching and support. During his keynote address, “No Easy Walk to Freedom,” he will discuss the superintendent’s role in ensuring that every student has the knowledge and skills to succeed in the international marketplace.
“If America is going to hold on to the position its held for the past 200 years as a bastion of freedom, we will have to dramatically improve our education system,” Dr. Quinn says.
New Sponsorship Opportunities Available
MASA is offering new sponsorship opportunities at our 2017 Fall Conference! Our goal is to connect MASA members with the partners, businesses and services that support the important work being done by leaders in public education. MASA is moving away from the traditional vendor show and instead giving sponsors the opportunity to network with MASA members outside the boundaries of a booth. A full slate of sponsorship opportunities is now available!
