Professional Learning for Central Office Administrators

From curriculum development to human resources to finance management and more, first-line administrators are a critical part of a district’s leadership team. Spark Growth is a four-session series designed to support central office administrators and help them build their skills as they work to strengthen public education and ensure every student gets a high-quality education.

September 27, 2017: Strategic Conversations for Educational Leaders

  • Assess your personal characteristics to come to a better understanding of your own personality type
  • Learn to structure conversations with school leaders to effect positive change
  • Learn to provide honest and respectful feedback to school leaders
  • Understand the will/skill continuum to identify the needs of school leaders
  • Plan for and manage conversations that ensure professional growth
  • Develop leadership plans for consistently providing targeted feedback

November 13, 2017: Creating the Conditions for Highly Effective Team Functioning

  • Assess your personal attributes related to participation in a team
  • Identify perceptions, preferences, strengths, weaknesses, and points of view, and how they affect team functioning
  • Identify the five dysfunctions of teams and learn ways to overcome them

February 26, 2018: Practical Leadership Skills for Managing Change

  • Understand and be able to apply the five core competencies of dealing with complex change
  • Understand the role of leaders in managing complex change

April 24, 2018: Facilitation Skills for Group Effectiveness

  • Become familiar with the research on effective instruction of adult learners
  • Learn to plan for effective group meetings
  • Learn to match protocols to desired outcomes
  • Apply strategies for creating group norms, facilitating learning and discussion, building shared understanding and forming group decisions

Time Commitment

  • 1 year, with 4 full days
  • SCECHs are available


  • MASA members:
    $500 for the full series or $175 per session
  • Non-members:
    $750 for the full series or $225 per session
