This week, March 2-6, 2020 is Statistics in Schools Week: Everyone Counts!

This weeklong series of fun classroom activities is provided by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools (SIS) program – created as a fun way to educate students about the importance of the once-per-decade count.

Each day has a different theme with corresponding resources and materials.

  • Monday: Introduce the 2020 Census
  • Tuesday: Use SIS Materials to teach students about congressional apportionment and its connection to the census. Students can conduct a survey.
  • Wednesday: Show how questions highlight the country’s diversity by assembling and sharing a collage that highlights the diversity in your classroom
  • Thursday: Take a virtual field trip to the U.S. Census Bureau to learn more about how data is collected and used
  • Friday: Ask students to take home the SIS flyer.

A key part of the week is Friday when the flyer can be sent home to families. The flyer, available in English and 12 additional languages, explains to adults the importance of the 2020 Census and how to count every child in their home.

All of the resources for SIS week are available on the U.S. Census website.
